9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM JOINED BY PRESENTING SPONSOR CON EDISON FOR ANNUAL TRIBUTE IN LIGHT INSTALLATION
New York, NY – September 5, 2024 – The iconic Tribute in Light commemorative art installation returns for another year, viewable within a 60-mile radius around lower Manhattan from dusk on September 11 to dawn on September 12, to mark the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. These twin beams of light, which evoke the original Twin Towers, have become an essential element of how New York City always remembers our city’s resilience in the face of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and all those who were killed. The 9/11 Memorial plaza opens to the public at 3 pm on September 11, 2024 and will remain open until midnight so that visitors from across the city and around the world can view the installation from this sacred site of remembrance and learning.

Tribute in Light was first presented six months after 9/11 in March 2002, while rescue, recovery, and relief efforts at Ground Zero continued. The installation consists of eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon light bulbs assembled in two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the original Twin Towers. The lights are custom-made by Space Cannon and the installation is produced annually by Michael Ahern Production Services (MAPS).
This event is supported by a Market New York grant from Empire State Development and I LOVE NY/New York State's Division of Tourism, awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
